内容記述 | Miyagi University in Japan faces several educational challenges, such as deviations and limitations in the practice environment, inadequate magination in students due to limited practical experience, and lack of creativity in nursing practices that focus on the community. Therefore, this research aimed to develop and test a third place of learning named as "MYUTOWN," which can complement on-campus lasses and clinical training. This educational environment is a virtual area consisting of town maps, videos, and electronic medical records and can be used alone or in conjunction with existing high-performance simulators. A trial, comprising five study participants, was conducted for 1st to 3rd year nursing students wherein 90% of the students responded positively about the degree of learning goal achievement, improvement in imagination skills, and usefulness in understanding the target audience. In addition, teachers’ evaluation indicated that it was fairly effective in promoting learning. However, 60% of the students were unsure regarding operability, partly due to the fact that many students watched images being projected on the screen without operating the device themselves. The key feature of this educational environment is that students can operate it independently and study actively, but the learning effects cannot be verified in a few cases owing to the teacher's mode of operation. Therefore, the need to disseminate knowledge of effective usage methods among teachers as well as to develop education and support systems for information and communications technology literacy were identified as issues. Study findings suggest that MYU-TOWN can have an educational effect that contributes to the achievement of learning goals and that it is a teaching material, which can function as an additional place of learning that mutually complements on-campus classes. Furthermore, the possibility of its utilization in continuing nursing education was indicated. |
