This study conducted a literature review to examine the applicability of the Care Evaluation Scale (CES), a scale for evaluating the structure and process of end-of-life care, which was developed and used in the adult field, in the pediatric field. After searching for papers associated with end-of-life care for children and their families on Ichushi-Web, 946 out of 1884 references were extracted, excluding duplicates, and 27 papers that ultimately fulfilled the eligibility criteria were included in the analysis. In the analysis results, content related to playing and learning care, sibling care, and family support were extracted as items that should be added to the CES. Moreover, no content related to “Cost” and “Availability” was extracted in the literature review. However, given the known economic burden of children’s illnesses and the fact that the number of children spending their terminal phase at home is increasing owing to the spread of pediatric home care, it is necessary to make careful judgement regarding the deletion of these items when using the CES in the pediatric field. |
