内容記述 This study aimed to clarify the phenomenon of the career plateau in mid-career nurses, its constituent concepts, influencing factors, and progress after the plateau and evaluate career support for mid-career nurses to overcome career plateaus. This study collected data from the following databases: web version of the Japan Medical Abstracts Society, CINAHL, and Medline. We also conducted a literature search for reports published from 2000 to 2023 using the keywords "mid-career nurse" and "career plateau.” The constituent concepts of career plateau in mid-career nurses were shown to be "low self-esteem," "confusion about identity," "being stuck," "lack of confidence or feeling of inadequacy in work or duties," "low motivation," "anxiety or difficulties when transferring," "anxiety about promotion," "feeling of inadequacy due to promotion," and "stagnation of job satisfaction." Individual and organizational factors were found to influence the career plateau of mid-career nurses. Individual factors were shown to be "age," "psychological anxiety due to life events," "weight of responsibility," "pride as a nurse," "desire for promotion," "independent career development," and "deepening of expertise." The relevant organizational factors that were identified included "large number of nursing managers and certified nurses," "setting career goals," "lack of stimulation within the same department," "human relationships with superiors," "opportunities for promotion," "career counseling department," "work environment," and "education and training." We found that the paths of mid-career nurses who had overcome the career plateau were associated with "looking for an opportunity to take the next step," "break away from the status quo," "maintain the status quo," and "escape reality." Notably, the career plateau of mid-career nurses occurs because of factors such as decreased self-esteem, work monotony, and decreased opportunities for promotion. However, it is important for career development to not simply view the career plateau as stagnation but also as a turning point in self-growth, set proactive goals, and develop a positive career.
