With the notorious decrease of the young population in Japan, the need for universities to differentiate from each other in order to attract students has increased. One such differentiation strategy is to create a new multidisciplinary area by the fusion of several traditional scientific domains. In Miyagi University, one such new area has been created, through the fusion of design and information sciences. In this paper, we report on the survey we have performed to several Japanese universities with departments or schools taking such a multidisciplinary approach, with focus on the fusion of design and information. |
